Recording of Information
The scribes usually wrote on papyrus, using reed bushes, which were dipped in ink. The ancient Egyptians made ink by grinding brightly coloured minerals into powder, then mixing the powder with liquid so that it was easier to apply. They would normally use scripts to write down the information, although they would sometimes write in the tombs and temples.
The Ancient Egyptians believed that it was very important to record and communicate information, this is why they invented written scripts, which have been found and translated more recently. Much of what we know about ancient Egypt is due to the actions of the scribes and officials. When some of ancient Egypt's monumental buildings were built, it was recorded, economic activities were also documented by them, and tales about Egypt's lower classes or tales from foreign lands have survived all of this time, thanks to scribes recording the information.
